Tutoring and Enrichment Course Policies

1.) Clients who desire an initial first tutoring session must pay for services via PayPal, Stripe, or Zelle immediately following the session. The Zelle email is cshipman1985@gmail.com. If you pay via PayPal or Stripe you can use this website to make payment. If you are satisfied with the first session, I strongly encourage you to purchase a 5, 10, 15, 20 session tutoring package for your desired course. Packages are discounted at 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. Enrichment courses are only offered as a package of 5 sessions and are not discounted. If you desire more sessions in an enrichment course, you must contact me directly to discuss.

2.) 24-hour cancellation policy-You must cancel the tutoring session a minimum of 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. If you reschedule within the same week, you will not be charged for the cancelled session. However, if you do not reschedule within the same week, you will be charged.

3.) Tutor cancellation- I may cancel a tutoring session for the following reasons:

  1. Illness

  2. Family emergency.

(If I need to cancel for these reasons, we will reschedule the session at a time that is convenient for you.)

4.) I strongly encourage students to have a plan on what they want to review in their first tutoring session. They can email their study guides or PowerPoints to info@spiritofinquirytutoring.com. Send me only enough work that can be successfully reviewed in an hour to 1.5 hours. This usually would only include a single PowerPoint (30–40 slides long) or a portion of a study guide. You can also just email or message me via chat the concepts you want to review.

5.) If you need help deciphering scientific literature, please email me this literature (to cover in an hour to 1.5 hours) and begin dissecting it yourself by taking in-depth notes. Familiarize yourself with the literature.

6.) If you must complete difficult writing assignments, you must come to our sessions having completed a draft that shows you put forth significant effort. I do not complete writing assignments with or for students. I help them make them better.

7.) A typical tutoring session with a student will be conducted as follows:

  • Ask you about yourself, interests, and major.

  • Provide you with a brief background about myself.

  • Ask them what their expectations for tutoring are?

  • Ask them if they plan to be tutored weekly or just this one time?

  • Ask you about how you learn best (i.e. visual, verbal, etc.) and encourage you to ask me lots of questions.

  • Ask you about what your goals are for the session (i.e. complete a lab). At this point, we will focus on what you are least confident in/weaknesses (i.e. focus on questions you are very unsure about).

  • Complete these goals.

  • Ask you questions about the content to verbally assess your retention of the information throughout completion of goals.

  • Summarize what was learned in the session.

  • Ask you how I could help tutor you better (get feedback from you).

  • Schedule a next session with you and tell you about my tutoring packages.

8.) Enrichment courses are taught using engaging videos, PowerPoints, graphics, personal field experiences etc. I can custom design a course for you as well, but you would need to contact me directly to discuss this.

9.) If you are interested in me mentoring your student in science research, please contact me directly for this.
